About Alina

Needlenose!

Alina was born Abita Kahlua on February 1, 1999. As a racing greyhound, she spent the first few years of her life on a greyhound farm, growing up and learning how to run. Her early racing career was in Florida, but in October 2001 she started racing at Dairyland race track in Kenosha, Wisconsin. A broken leg forced her to retire from her less-than-illustrious career. She was placed in the care of Greyhound Guardians, a greyhound adoption group.

Karen saw Alina's picture on the Greyhound Guardians website and it was love at first sight. She quickly arranged a meeting, and took her home that very day in January 2002. Since then, Alina has lived out all the joys of true retirement - sleeping for 20+ hours a day, taking leisurely walks, sunbathing in the grass, and even going on a few road trips.

Alina's most commonly-used nickname is Beans, but she also goes by Beanerinas, Bean-face, Goober, Lina-Beans, and many more. Her favorite activities include cuddling, sighing contentedly, and squeaking her stuffy toys. She wants desperately to be friends with Kitty. When strangers come to the apartment, she can be found at the door greeting them with a pogo-esque bounce, wagging tail, and lots of sniffs. She only barks in her sleep.
