Maddie wormed her way into our lives at a time when we weren't the least bit interested in getting another cat. A few days before Thanksgiving 2008, Bo found Maddie lying on the ground in the neighborhood while he was walking the dog. She was shaking and not moving voluntarily at all and did not seem to respond to our voices or touch. She had stitches in her belly from a recent spay. We rushed her to the emergency vet. No collar, no microchip. She was so hypothermic that her temperature did not register on the thermometer. She was also extremely hypoglycemic - her brain was not working properly and she was totally blind. After an expensive night+day of veterinary care, she recovered medically.
However, we discovered what her poor health was hiding - she was feral (wild). Because she was feral, we couldn't take her to a shelter - she would probably be put down. So, against our better judgment but with nowhere else to go, Maddie ended up in our home.
Maddie enjoys being scratched behind her ears and is a big fan of treats. She's still wary of Kitty (for good reason - Kitty has not been a good hostess) but there are sparks of interest and potential friendship with Alina. Her full name is Madeleine Mary, which comes from a Will Oldham/Bonnie Prince Billy song.
